Job overview

We wish to appoint a talented, compassionate and enthusiastic individual to lead Elleray, the Junior School of Windermere School. Established in 1863, Windermere School is an independent boarding and day school with a modern and innovate approach that encourages young people to strive for excellence in all they do.

Applications are welcomed from current Deputy Heads, or senior leaders, with a proven track record of leading and developing others, who can evidence high standards in education and pastoral care. The Head and leadership team have strong values, high expectations and work alongside a team of committed colleagues who are steering the School through the next stage of its development. 

Those with the experience of supporting Junior Boarding Houses, as part of a larger boarding community will be at an advantage.

Our location, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and area of outstanding beauty, offers a stimulating environment in which to develop both inside and outside of the classroom.

Head of Elleray 

The Head of Elleray will be responsible for the organisation, management and smooth running of the Junior School and will report directly to the Head of Windermere School in this capacity. 

This job description gives an overall indication of the areas of responsibility of the position but is by no means all-encompassing or fixed.  The post holder may be required to undertake any other reasonable task requested by the Head which falls within the capabilities of the successful applicant and which are in accordance with the usual practice of an independent boarding and day school.

“A wide range of weekend activities takes place in school, in the surrounding area and elsewhere in the country. Many activities also take place on weekday afternoons and evenings. The school successfully implements its equality and anti-discrimination policy. Food is plentiful and nutritious and includes dishes appropriate to an international community. Appropriate policies are implemented for the care of sick or injured boarders. The school’s provision covers: first aid; chronic conditions and disabilities; emergencies, including those at night-time; and administration of prescribed and non-prescribed medication. The school educates the pupils about e-safety and cyber-bullying.”
