Situated in the heart of one of Surrey’s traditional market towns, Reigate College is one of the most successful sixth form providers in the UK. Described by Ofsted as “outstanding” on every measure we are a National Teaching School, known for quality, success and innovation.
The College is seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and hardworking teacher to lead a new, expanding Department that offers A Level Product Design and Foundation Technical Level Engineering. There are course leaders for the Engineering qualification, which means that the successful applicant will be responsible for managing the Department as a whole and will receive 2 periods of remission in order to assist with this. The post is available from either 23 April or 1 September 2019.
Our ideal person will be able to demonstrate a track record of success in delivering the highest standards and achieving outstanding results. The successful applicant will be skillful at motivating and encouraging colleagues to try out new approaches and resources.
The post would equally suit an experienced manager or a teacher seeking their first management role. Above all, we are seeking someone with an excellent knowledge of Product Design/Resistant Materials, along with the ability to make the subject come alive for our students. The post holder must be confident in the use of Information Technology in all aspects of their work.
This new Department will bring together two courses that have previously been line managed in other Departments. The College has decided to develop and invest in this new Department in response to increasing student demand for these subjects and the fact that they share similar physical resources and workspaces. This is therefore, an ideal post for anyone wishing to establish a Department and put their own stamp on a dynamic and growing area.
The Department will consist of one other member of staff, potentially rising to two for September 2019 to cope with demand. The Department also has two technicians, which this post holder will line manage.
The Department works closely as a team in a friendly and co-operative manner. Strong emphasis is given to mutual support by the exchange of ideas and materials and thus the co-operative construction of Schemes of Work and Lesson Plans.
Currently, the Department offers A Level Art & Design (3D Design) following the Eduqas board. However, the demand from students is to revert to a pure Product Design course, similar to the Resistant Materials that is studied at GCSE. Therefore, the College is open to and encouraging of, the introduction of an alternative course that reflects this change. This would be for this post holder to recommend.
The Department will also continue to offer the highly successful and popular AQA Foundational Technical Level in Engineering. Please see separate document for full details on this course.
The salary for this post is up to £42,281 per annum.
Applicants may wish to contact the College to discuss the role in advance if any clarification is required.
Applicants are asked to complete and return the enclosed application form to the Personnel Department by email to email@example.com as soon as possible, but no later than 9.00am on Monday 28 January 2019.
When completing their application, candidates are asked to indicate their results (A*-B grades, retention, value added), as well as particular strengths, experiences and interests that they would bring to this post itself and more generally to College life outside of their teaching commitment.
Applicants are asked to make it clear on the application whether they are applying for an Easter or September start.
Reigate College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. These posts are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and a comprehensive screening process will be undertaken on successful applicants including an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
