Purpose of the role

Cathedral Schools Trust (CST) is seeking to appoint a Head of English from 1st September 2019. 

This is a unique opportunity to join a team that will create and establish a new school. As a new school, we would welcome conversations about the makeup of this job description and as a senior member of the teaching staff, you would be required to take on responsibility for aspects of the whole school which can be discussed at interview.


Core roles:

  • Embrace the vision and values of the new academy. 
  • Rapidly raise standards and achievement through being an exceptional middle leader. 
  • Provide professional leadership and management for the English department.
  • Lead on literacy across the curriculum.
  • Be accountable for progress and attainment of all students at all key stages. Our stated aim is to be a +1 school for every student.
  • Provide support and challenge for colleagues to help develop a high quality of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a Departmental Improvement Plan by evaluating the quality of student outcomes and learning.
  • Track the progress of students and vulnerable groups, promoting effective interventions.
