Job overview

This is an exciting time to be joining Dean Close St John’s. As part of the wider Dean Close Foundation, St John’s is seeking a dynamic, forward thinking and innovative Head of English to assist in setting the direction for the next stage of our journey.

You will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with an eye for detail, whilst being able to see the bigger picture. You will deliver outstanding lessons, instil a love of English and reading in all pupils and have a passion for growing children into kind, compassionate, outward looking and independent young people. 

As a Head of Department, you will lead and inspire all teachers of English in the school, drive innovation in English teaching and learning, manage the departmental resources and schemes of work. You also be integral to embedding the Pre-Senior Baccalaureate into our senior year groups, as well as ensuring that throughout the school children are being prepared with the necessary skills to flourish. 

A commitment to excellence is essential alongside the ability to enthuse and motivate staff. The successful candidate will be an excellent organiser who can confidently take on new challenges. You will be committed to all aspects of school life, building positive relationships with staff, children and parents. The school is family orientated and staff have an in depth knowledge of the children, meeting their individual needs.

Our goal is to see children flourish in all aspects of their education. Your can-do approach will be essential in inspiring the staff and leading by example. We are not looking for “run-of-the-mill” but an outstanding candidate who will embody the Foundation Values of Love, Courage and Contribution.
