Head of English

St Thomas More is looking to appoint a dynamic and ambitious Head of English.

We are seeking to appoint for September 2016 an exceptional leader with a passion for teaching and learning and a clear focus on raising the achievement of young people. While the role is primarily the strategic leadership of English, this role could also enable the successful candidate to take on significant whole school responsibilities with regards to the strategic development of teaching and learning.

You will lead on all aspects of English teaching, promoting interest in the subject across the full age range of the school. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, dynamic and innovative specialist to be responsible for the English department. The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom teacher and a strong team leader. This is a key role within our school and the successful applicant will be responsible for improving and maintaining teaching and learning within the English department.

The successful candidate should have:

• Passion for their subject and be a motivator of staff and students.
• Outstanding classroom practice and high expectations of all learners.
• A proven track record of raising attainment.
• The ability to lead successfully within the department comprising 10 teachers ensuring that attainment is at the highest level.
• Proven success teaching their specialism to A-level and a strong working knowledge of the English curriculum at all key stages.
• A vision for the department in impacting on whole school achievement and our wider community.
