Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS) is an independent Anglican school with an enrolment of approximately 1,400 students and a 90 year tradition as a leader in the education of girls.  

Offering a world-class education including the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme our intent is to develop young women who are well-educated and who insist on living ethically and purposely.

The Role

Due to the international promotion of our current Head of English, we are seeking a highly motivated leader who will be responsible for the quality of teaching and learning in the English Faculty. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for the leadership of a dynamic and experienced faculty of professionals and is expected to be proactive and innovative about curriculum development. The role will commence on Monday 22 July 2019.

Appropriate academic qualifications and teacher training, as well as a sound understanding of current educational trends and learning styles are required.

All teaching staff members are expected to take part in the whole life of the School including participation in pastoral care and involvement in co-curricular activities. 

Eligibility for registration with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute which includes a Working with Vulnerable People check are conditions of employment. A current first aid certificate is desirable.

Canberra Girls Grammar School is a single sex, independent, Anglican all-through day and boarding school in Australian Capital Territory, serving girls from Year 3-Year 12, and is co-educational from Early Learning to Year 2. The all-through school is situated in Deakin, a suburb of Canberra. There are approximately 1,600 students on record. 

Canberra Girls Grammar School was founded in 1926 by the Church of England, and was known as St Gabriel’s School. It is a member of the Association of Heads of Independent Girls’ schools (AHIGS). It is split between a primary and secondary campus. The school is committed to attracting enthusiastic and dedicated staff, and offers generous incentives, including professional development opportunities, extensive use of all the modern school facilities and discounted school fees.

The all-through school has a wide range of modern learning facilities, including a music centre, a indoor heated swimming pool, a gym, sports courts, science laboratories, sports grounds, a library, a performing arts block, and a 1,000 seat state-of-the-art hall.

Curriculum 

Canberra Girls Grammar School offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum at both primary and secondary level, promoting international-mindedness and boasting a worldwide reputation. Careers support is offered to older pupils, allowing for them to gain vital work-related information and feel inspired for their future pathway. Pupils with learning needs or disabilities are supported through additional learning programmes specifically tailored to suit their individual needs.
