Job overview

Abingdon Preparatory School is a leading independent preparatory day school of around 250 boys aged between 4 and 13 years. The school is located on its own site in Frilford, Oxfordshire and is part of the Abingdon Foundation.

At Abingdon Prep we are seeking to appoint a dynamic Head of English who can lead a vibrant department and deliver excellence in this core curriculum subject. The applicant will be confident to teach 13+ Common Entrance and Academic Scholarship syllabuses as well as support Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 English coordinators, who will be under the direct guidance of the Head of Department. In addition to teaching English and in collaboration with the Director of Music, the applicant will undertake the direction of the Senior Section (Years 7 and 8) school production which facilitates the Drama provision for pupils in this section of the school. The applicant will also be a Form Teacher in the Senior Section (currently we are seeking a Year 8 Form Teacher position) and assist the Sports department, including the three main sports of rugby, football and cricket.

This is a wonderful opportunity for either a current Head of Department or a suitably experienced English Teacher aspiring to be Head of Department to join our school, which was judged to be excellent in all areas and exceptional in pupil achievement and learning in our most recent ISI inspection. We are seeking to appoint a talented and inspiring professional, who is passionate about teaching, can provide effective and departmental leadership, who is flexible to work as part of a team, as well as being able to take initiative and contribute more generally in a busy and stimulating school environment.

The closing date for applications is Friday 19 February 2016 (midday)
Interviews will be held on Wednesday 2 March 2016
