Salary: Qualified Teacher’s Pay Scale, plus TLR 2D, which currently equates to £6,515 per annum

Bridgwater and Taunton College Trust and the Governors of Stanchester Academy wish to appoint a dynamic and talented Head of English.

This is an incredibly exciting time for Stanchester Academy having just received an Ofsted rating of Good (October 2019) and having joined a highly successful Multi Academy Trust (December 1st 2019).  The Academy is also in a period of growth having increased its published admission number from 120 to 180 over the last three years to account for the preferences of families within the community.  The Academy draws from nine rurally located feeder primary schools all of whom work closely with the Academy to provide exceptional transition experiences for young people.

We are looking for an outstanding English teacher with the ability to lead on developments across the key stages to facilitate improved KS4 outcomes, as well as the acquisition and development of language and cultural capital across the Academy. You will have the opportunity to work with enthusiastic, innovative staff who are competitive and ambitious about improving outcomes for children

You will need to be an effective classroom practitioner with a good track record of positive outcomes at GCSE, but be looking for a new challenge. You might already have some experience of leading a whole school initiative or mentoring/coaching colleagues and be looking to gain some leadership experience.

The successful candidate will possess the ability to inspire both staff and students and will demonstrate an intense curiosity about how we learn and develop language skills. We strongly believe that positive outcomes for our students come from the professionalism, commitment and passion displayed by our staff and invite you to join our successful team.

Do please come to visit us and see what an exciting opportunity our Academy can offer to a teacher looking to develop their leadership skills. You can make a significant contribution to narrowing the gap in achievement and attainment for our students and enabling them to go beyond their best.

What we offer:

  • A Trust wide leadership competencies framework
  • A Trust wide staff wellbeing policy
  • Personalised professional development supported by an exceptional team within the Academy and  driven through The Continual Professional Growth Policy which replaces appraisal and pay progression
  • Stanchester Academy is set in a rural location in the South Somerset countryside within a mile of the   A303, close to Yeovil and benefits from exceptionally good rail links to major cities in the UK including London , Bristol, Bath & Exeter

Please note, although we are ideally looking for a full-time colleague, we are open to discussing flexible working options.
