Job overview

We are seeking a dynamic, committed and inspirational leader to lead and drive forward the curriculum and assessment of English in our busy and highly successful English Department and School. A skilled and exceptional teacher yourself, you will have the ability to ensure that the provision is outstanding, innovative and forward-thinking. In addition, this leadership post will also involve leading and developing the English Department in teaching and learning to continue to build on a tradition of excellence.

You will have the personality and drive to instil in others, both staff and pupils, a passion for the subject and an appreciation for its place in the school. As Head of Department you will have a clear philosophy and understanding of how to deliver an English curriculum that is innovative, culturally rich, creative and reflective of current practice.

Being a staff member of Rowan Preparatory School means that you will be joining a team who are committed and passionate about girls’ education. The team is supportive, forward thinking yet mindful of work/life balance. There are excellent opportunities for professional development linked to your personal ambitions and moving the school forward. Rowan is a happy and nurturing school, where staff enjoy coming to work and being part of the Rowan family.

Rowan Preparatory School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure Barring Service.

Rowan Preparatory School is part of United Learning, a large and growing group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England. Schools within United Learning work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. By collecting expertise and combining resources, we help to make the tough job of teaching a little easier. With a shared curriculum and lesson plans from around the group available to all, our teachers have strong foundations to lead the engaging, rounded education our children deserve. Our intranet site, United Hub, is just one example of how we share this resource and communicate across sites, helping to simplify processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance. We reward our staff: with wide career opportunities – between Primary and Secondary, Academy and Independent – better pay, benefits, and ultimately the satisfaction of helping every child at each of our schools to succeed and reach their full potential.
