We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and skilled Head of English to join this Catholic 11–18 comprehensive school judged “good” by Ofsted in May 2017 and by the Archdiocese of Southwark in 2014.   We are looking for a talented, highly-motivated teacher who can deliver high quality lessons consistently across KS3-KS5.  This post would be ideal for an outstanding English teacher looking to step up to Head of Department.

In return, we offer the opportunity to develop your career in a thriving school with excellent modern facilities for teaching languages.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their teaching and leadership skills through our excellent CPD programme and will have opportunities for career development within the school.  We are committed to reducing teacher workload and are currently changing school systems on assessment, homework and planning to ensure that staff time is spent effectively.

St John Bosco College is located in the heart of Battersea, a short walk from Clapham Junction station and easily accessible by road and public transport.  The successful candidate will:

  • Be able to teach English Language & Literature at KS3-5.
  • Be able to lead English under the direction of a senior member of staff and develop the subject across the school.
  • Be actively supportive of the Catholic values and beliefs of St John Bosco College and to make a positive contribution to the wider life of the school.

If you would like to come in to have a look at the school before applying please contact Ms Ansley, PA to Headteacher via the main school telephone number or email mansley@sjbc.wandsworth.sch.uk.

In the interests of efficiency, economy and the environment, candidates are encouraged to download an application and details from the school website, www.sjbc.wandsworth.sch.uk.

Completed application should be returned to the school either by email or post. CVs are not accepted.

Please note that if you complete the application form on an Apple Mac you must use ‘Adobe Acrobat Reader’ (you can get it here:  http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/) and not the ‘Preview’ application that comes with the computer due to an incompatibility.

St John Bosco College is located in the heart of Battersea a short distance from Clapham Junction and Battersea Bridge.  We are an 'outstanding' Catholic School (Section 48 inspection June 2019) rated were 'good' by Ofsted in our most recent inspection (October 2022).

At St John Bosco College we believe that there should be no limit on what our pupils can achieve and we expect everyone who joins us to aim high and always do their best. With a broad and balanced curriculum, excellent teaching, a modern purpose-built school and a caring, nurturing ethos; we provide an excellent environment where all of our pupils can reach their full potential.

“Saint John Bosco is a Catholic college, but admits pupils from a wide range of faiths and cultures and these differences are embraced and celebrated” Ofsted

We want our pupils to work hard but also enjoy life in school.  We provide many enrichment activities; sporting, work experience, cultural and charitable; for our pupils to learn and grow beyond the confines of the classroom.  We believe that these opportunities enable our pupils to grow and develop into well-rounded young men and women who will leave here fully equipped for life beyond school.

“Staff know each and every pupil and relationships are consequently highly positive.” Ofsted

Our identity as a Roman Catholic school and our school’s distinctive Salesian ethos is based on St John Bosco’s vision that ‘it is not enough for every child to be loved… they must know that they are loved’. We provide strong pastoral support and a high level of care for every student, regardless of their background.  We are a community where everyone is highly valued as an individual.

“Pupils mix well in this harmonious environment and benefit from personalised support and guidance” Ofsted

Whilst we are justifiably proud of our school and of the achievements of the young people who have already studied here we are equally excited about the future and the potential of the young people joining our school to achieve great things in the years ahead.

“The school’s vision that ‘it is not enough for young people to be loved, they must know that they are loved’ permeates the school’s culture” Ofsted
