Job overview

Mayesbrook Park School provides alternative provision for secondary school students aged 11-16 in Barking and Dagenham.  There are three campuses and this post is leading our Erkenwald campus due to the retirement of our current Head. There are up to 30 students aged 11-16.  Most of these students have emotional and mental health issues, some have special educational needs and /or disabilities (SEND) plus a considerable proportion are pupil premium, children in need (CIN) or subject to child protection (CP).  They have struggled to attend mainstream school and therefore have gaps in attendance and learning.  The campus offers a safe and nurturing setting where most students improve their attendance and overcome their barriers to learning so that they achieve good academic outcomes with post 16 destinations.

We are looking for an experienced senior leader who understands the complex mental health issues which affect our young people and who can work closely with a wide range of agencies, including the Educational Psychology Service and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHs).  You must be an excellent classroom teacher who is able to lead the strong teaching team from the front.  You will need to work closely and sensitively with parents/carers who may need a wide range of interventions to enable them to effectively support their children.  This is an excellent and rewarding opportunity for a senior leader who is highly experienced in providing quality first teaching and interventions and who has the patience, dedication and resilience to offer our young people a second chance to engage in education.

You will work closely with the Head of Mayesbrook Park school and with our other heads of campus to continue to rapidly drive up standards across the school. You will lead on specific areas of the whole School Improvement Plan, depending on your specific skills and contribute to our strong staff training programme.  You will manage and develop a strong staff team.  You will receive constant, committed and consistent support from our Head and from our local authority team.

Visits to the Campus are encouraged and be arranged by contacting Maureen Phillips, maureen.phillips@lbbd.gov.uk Telephone: 020 8724 1140
