Job overview

Hylands School. Where Teachers love Teaching.

We love teaching. Simple. We love it when students "get it". When they have that penny drop moment after struggling and thinking hard. We love class discussions, we love silent contemplation and study, we also love students working together.

At Hylands we love developing our teaching. This is why we send students home early on a Tuesday and spend two hours each week talking, collaborating and planning our teaching, and then we all leave before 5pm. We understand that great teaching is the reason why students at Hylands are great learners. Nothing trumps great pedagogy.

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated, passionate full-time Teacher of Humanities who has the additional experience and drive to lead a number of departments within the faculty.  Candidates should possess the skills, knowledge and qualifications to teach at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level, a Geography specialist would be preferred.

The school offers excellent working conditions and staff receive strong support for their professional development. Committed and excellent practitioners will find Hylands School a place where career development is taken very seriously.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and their achievements both inside and outside school. The post requires enhanced DBS clearance, medical checks and satisfactory references.

Hylands School is a mixed secondary school, with a small sixth form, for pupils aged 11-18. Located in Chelmsford, Essex, it converted to an academy in 2011 and is part of the Kemnal Academies Trust.

Hylands School’s sixth form provides students with opportunities to study a range of A-levels and BTECs, and to join a vibrant community where taking on new responsibilities contributes to social and personal development.

In 2016, Hylands School was placed in the top 100 schools for sustained improvement. Rising GCSE results in 2014 and 2015 were achieved through a culture of determination and resilience among all the staff and students. The school aims to continue this trend onwards and upwards.
