HEAD OF FILM STUDIES with English

TLR 2a (£3,017), MPS/UPS, London Fringe Pay Scale

Required for September 2023, an inspirational, enthusiastic, well-qualified and committed colleague with the vision and creativity to lead Film Studies.

Our ideal candidate will be passionate about the power of education to improve the life chances of young people through raising aspirations and expectations. We aim for both our students and staff to be the best they can be. Our recent OFSTED report (November 2022) acknowledged that the school is at the start of a journey with new leadership in place. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about making a significant individual contribution to the success of our school and to make a difference to the students at Bromfords; CPD and career opportunities will allow you to develop and grow with us.

The school is a strong, caring community with an ethos based on the three core principles; supporting students to achieve; providing opportunities for enrichment in order to extend students' education within and beyond the classroom; preparing students for the wider world and life beyond school with key life skills and learning relevant to their life, both in the present and in the future.

The Film Studies department is comprised of one other full-time colleague with classes at both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. Candidates will need to demonstrate the following attributes:

·        Be an excellent classroom practitioner with good classroom management skills;

·        Be able to inspire and enthuse students;

·        Have high expectations of students’ achievements and attitudes;

·        Experience of teaching Film Studies up to and including KS5 with a record of achieving good results;

·        Ability to teach English to at least KS3;

·        Commitment to our students, with the belief that education has the capacity to transform their journey.

We are able to provide you with the necessary support and guidance as well as a range of professional development opportunities at this crucial stage in your career. If you feel, you have the drive and commitment to succeed in the role we would like to hear from you.

We encourage visits from prospective candidates to meet members of our school community and to experience our school at first hand. If you would like to do this, please contact Ann Pullin, PA to the Headteacher on 01268 627848 or via email to recruitment@bromfords.essex.sch.uk

The Bromfords School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be offered a position subject to full pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS disclosure.

Values and vision

The Bromfords School  key aim is to be a school where its pupils are happy; where they feel safe and able to express themselves; and where they can access a challenging and appropriate curriculum. Promoting positive role models and fostering individual and collective pride are viewed as important, playing a role in creating pupils who are confident learners, able and ready to conquer barriers to success.

Academic progress is regularly monitored, although success in this area is not the be all and end all to education at the school. A wide range of extra-curricular and sporting activities are on offer, reflecting a holistic approach to developing pupils’ abilities.

The school’s sixth form, which benefits from small classes, prides itself on offering students a bespoke curriculum. Its aim is to encourage its students not only to develop a lifelong love of learning but to become caring and active citizens in the local community.

Ofsted

“The governors and headteacher have a vision for the school which middle leaders and staff share. There is a clear culture of hard work and good behaviour throughout the school. Governors and leaders have a firm understanding of the school’s strengths and areas for further development.”
