Job overview

We are recruiting for a finance professional with extensive management experience to lead a strong finance team at this highly respected independent school. 

You will report to the Bursar and work closely with other heads of department to ensure the smooth running of all financial matters across the whole group of companies which form the 1509 Group.

Leading a team of six professionals including accountants, part-qualified accountants and those qualified by experience, you will have a collaborative management approach and excel at bringing out the best in people. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Overall management of the finance team 
  • All financial transactions and accountancy matters including audit systems 
  • Overseeing the development of financial policies and their effective implementation 
  • Production and filing of statutory accounts 
  • Liaising with external advisors such as bankers, auditors, insurers and lawyers 
  • Production and presentation of financial information as required by the Bursar, COO, Headmaster and Governors. 


The successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant able to demonstrate successful leadership of a finance team. You will be personable, calm under pressure with an excellent attention to detail.

Located in the historic town of Guildford, the Royal Grammar School, dating back to 1509, is a leading independent day school for boys aged 11 – 18.
