Tes is currently supporting a friendly and supportive secondary school, based in Hertfordshire. The school is looking to add a Head of French to their progressive and supportive MFL Department ideally starting in January 2022.

The role will include managing the delivery of French at KS3, GCSE and A-level across year groups 7 to 13. You will lead your department to enhance provision and will get the chance to lead on exciting project work throughout the year. Project work may include revising schemes of work and ensuring the curriculum is engaging to all learners alongside projects that support student attainment, well-being and engagement within the wider school. However, as Head of Department you will have full autonomy to ensure your department meets targets and exceeds needs of our learners. You will lead by example, supporting and empowering your department’s teachers, staff and pupils to achieve to the best of their ability.

We seek a highly motivated and energetic candidate to join our very successful and very well-resourced French Department, as part of a team of 5 excellent French teachers and 2 wonderful French assistants. You may be new to leading a department or may already hold a similar position in your current school yet be seeking a position which offers greater scope for personal development in a stimulating, intellectually challenging environment. French is taught at GCSE and A level at the school. You will need to be able to teach students up to and including A level. In 2019, 96% of all students secured five or more grades 9-4 at GCSE. 84% of all A level entries were graded A*- B. 65% of GCSE French results were graded 7-9, with 87% at grade 5 or above; 90% of A Level French results were graded A*-B.

The school is situated on an attractive 35-acre site in the Green Belt, has excellent facilities and is committed to an extensive programme of staff development. Central London is easily reached by rail from Potters Bar and the school is close to motorway links."

• on-going CPD with programmes of study such as NPQSL and MA in Educational Leadership

• progression support throughout the school and wider group

• support package for NQT’s/RQT’s including CPD and NQT mentorship;

• the chance to take on further responsibility such as Leadership roles in the future.

The school expects:

• A UK teaching qualification such as PGCE/PGDE, SCITT, BEd or MEd with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• a relevant French Degree or a related subject

• experience delivering French up to A-level pushing and engaging learners to progress within the subject

• experience managing a department: specifically people and financial management

• a love and passion for education.
