Head of Geography in the Secondary School
St. Nicholas School is seeking to appoint a Head of Geography with three or more years’ experience who will enjoy working in a highly stimulating and dynamic international environment. Current experience teaching post 16 is desirable with IB Diploma experience as an added advantage. The Geography Department is a successful, forward thinking and well-run department where teachers value sharing ideas, resources and experiences. The Department offers a concept driven year 7 and 8 programme, the Cambridge University IGCSE International Geography course in years 9 and 10 and it is a popular choice for students at both HL and SL in the Diploma. Curriculum development is on-going and reflects the school’s inquiry based philosophy. The department offers a well developed programme of residential and day fieldwork experiences. The department interactive board or projectors in all classrooms and laptops and chromebooks are available for students, who are also encouraged to bring and use their own devices for learning. There are three full time teachers in the Department, including the Head and the Department counts on exclusive use of three well resourced classrooms, set up for collaboration, interaction and research.
Candidates are expected to have:
- A university degree in Geography or a related subject along with evidence of recent professional learning.
- An internationally recognised teaching qualification and three years’ teaching experience
- A recognition and some understanding of how Millennials learn
- A commitment to inquiry based learning and the school's vision and mission
- A commitment to international mindedness and IB teaching philosophy (www.ibo.org)
