Our daily work is guided by the Trust values of ambition, teamwork and honesty and Swanwick Hall’s agreed stakeholder values of inclusivity, resilience and respect.

The role:

As a dedicated and inspirational Student Progress Leader for Geography you will be instrumental in developing the vision for the faculty. You will lead a growing team and have the opportunity to shape curriculum design, develop the practice and pedagogy of others and be part of an aspirational and cohesive middle leadership team. If you have excellent subject knowledge and are passionate about Geography, if you are reflective in your approach to teaching and leading, and if you want to make a lasting impact on students and believe that all students have the capability to succeed, we would love to hear from you. Geography has grown significantly in recent years and is an increasingly popular and successful subject where students engage positively in high quality learning opportunities. Ofsted led a deep dive in Geography during our recent inspection and the ambition, intent and delivery of the curriculum were highly praised. Geography is housed in adjacent rooms which were all fully refurbished last summer, each one benefitting from a CleverTouch screen and visualiser. This vacancy arises following the appointment of the current post-holder to a Trust-wide curriculum role.

The person:

At Swanwick Hall we are looking to appoint a passionate and driven Head of Geography to lead our hardworking team. You will be instrumental in developing the vision for the faculty with the opportunity to shape curriculum design and develop the practice and pedagogy of colleagues. An experienced subject leader or looking for your first leadership post, you will lead a strong and experienced team of enthusiastic and collaborative Geography teachers. The successful candidate will be a dynamic classroom practitioner and have a clear sense of purpose, high expectations and a passion for Geography. As subject leader you will lead all aspects of learning and teaching in this curriculum area, ensuring that students of all ages and abilities thrive. The successful candidate will have a clear vision of what outstanding Geography provision is and be able to inspire and enthuse others to deliver the highest quality and most engaging learning experiences.

Why choose Swanwick Hall School?

We place a real emphasis on high quality teaching and have undertaken a vast amount of work on developing a high-quality knowledge rich curriculum in all subjects.

Our Swanwick lesson framework is based on strong classroom routines which ensure that all students have a clear understanding of what to expect in the classroom. We believe that ‘structure liberates’ and as a result, with strong structures in place, our staff have the autonomy to deliver lessons which are engaging, interesting and relevant.

We invest significantly in ongoing professional learning within our school and through collaboration with our colleagues in The Two Counties Trust. In partnership with our Trust colleagues, we have introduced our innovation to traditional appraisal which focusses on supporting our staff to fulfill their ambitions for their future. We hold deliberate practice sessions for our teaching staff each week and actively encourage everyone to participate in professional learning and focus on their career ambitions.

We are developing our offer that sits outside of the classroom and have a real focus on building opportunities for students for enrichment, leadership and trips. Learning outside of the classroom is equally as important as inside of the classroom, and we know that these opportunities will help to further instill a real sense of belonging here at Swanwick Hall.

To develop and improve the school further we need to recruit the best people at every opportunity. We are looking for people who are committed to enhancing the life choices of Swanwick Hall students and who can join our warm, hard-working and ambitious team.

If you haven’t already, I recommend that you visit the school and see us in action. We are always happy to meet prospective applicants and to talk openly and honestly about the school and the post on offer.
