About Palmers Green High School

Palmers Green High School is a very special place. The school has a reputation for excellence, which is underpinned by its traditions and the values of its founder, Miss Alice Hum.

Our girls’ academic development is assured since they enjoy the excitement of learning within an environment that is both supportive and challenging. With approximately four hundred pupils and staff in our school community, each individual is valued for their own special talents and achievements, and everyone is given the chance to shine

A wide range of specialist teachers encourages pupils to succeed, to reach their potential and take pride in their achievements. The school’s special ethos means that individual talent is fostered, celebrated and appreciated, and contribution to the community is greatly valued.

Palmers Green pupils develop into capable, confident and compassionate young women, and, in choosing our school, parents can be confident that they have selected a first class education for their daughters.

The Lower School:

Academically selective
Small and friendly atmosphere
Favourable pupil:teacher ratio
Effective communication between home and school
Preps. & Juniors share specialist teaching and facilities with the Senior School
The Nursery (Ages 3-4) is located within 10 minutes of the main school site and operates from 9am – 12 noon. Girls enjoy structured activities in an academic environment, where a wide range of equipment for both work and play encourages enjoyment of learning. Most girls from the Nursery progress through to the Reception class. Entry to the Nursery is by assessment, which takes place in the Summer Term.

The Preparatory and Junior Departments (Ages 4-11) are both located on the main school site in Hoppers Road.

In the Prep Department girls enjoy the excitement of learning, exploring new ideas and meeting the challenges set by our dedicated and experienced staff. A combination of learning through play and more formal activities enables them to achieve a firm foundation in basic skills. Decision-making and problem-solving are also key elements in pupils’ development.

The Junior Department has a busy and purposeful atmosphere. Field trips and educational visits are an integral part of the curriculum and the performing arts feature strongly throughout the school. Girls are encouraged to develop a caring and considerate approach to others and support a variety of charities, in line with the school ethos and motto: ‘By Love Serve One Another.’ End of Key Stage 2 results are very good indeed and our girls are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of Senior School.

Entry to the Lower School is by Assessment and Interview, which vary in length and content according to age.

The Senior School:

Academically selective
Average teaching group size of 15
Each student is known as an individual
Excellent GCSE results
Very competitive fees
Extra curricular programme including drama, music and sport
‘Small is beautiful’ and in our Senior School pupils thrive because of the small friendly community. Every student is set appropriate challenges and encouraged to give of their very best, with plenty of opportunities to discover and develop talents outside the classroom as well as within the academic curriculum. As a result of our small teaching groups and individual attention our students gain excellent GCSE results and

enjoy great choice at 16, when they progress to other independent schools (all girls and co-ed), maintained schools, and Sixth Form Colleges.

Although the school is renowned for its excellent examination results, pupils’ success is not only measured in terms of academic accomplishment. Our focus on the skills and aptitudes of each individual ensures that pupils are both challenged and supported to enable them to fulfil their potential. Everyone is given the chance to shine.

Entry to the Senior School is by interview and formal examination – English, Maths, Science and Reasoning Papers at 11+. The main 11+ testing takes place in January, but occasional vacancies sometimes occur in other year groups.
