Job overview

Saltash Community School offers the perfect opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic subject leader to join us at Easter 2023, to take on the management of a dedicated team of teachers within our Geography Department. We welcome applicants with the desire and experience to develop and manage their team of dedicated teachers and to inspire our students alike. Travel and Tourism is an exciting addition to our Yr10 curriculum offer for the next academic year and knowledge or experience in delivering this curriculum would be desirable but is not essential.  The ability to lead and deliver the best outcomes for all is a must.

Saltash Community School is a co-educational 11-18 school of over 1200 students including a successful sixth form and incorporating an Area Resource Base; a specialised environment for children with severe and complex learning needs. Saltash is a friendly, caring, supportive and ambitious school with people and relationships at its heart. Here at Saltash we are determined to improve the life chances of every single student on roll, developing happy and healthy citizens who make a positive contribution to our local community and to wider society. Your role as a Head of Department in that is hugely important on that journey.

We are part of the South East Cornwall Multi Academy Trust (SMART) which serves the needs of over 3000 young people and comprises two nurseries, a pre-school, three primary schools, three secondary schools, two sixth forms and two Area Resource Bases clustered around the towns of Liskeard, Saltash and Looe.  If you would like to become part of our school, we would like to hear from you.

If you would like to visit the school or have more information on this position, please contact our Operations Manager, Mr Ian Foy: ifoy@saltashcloud.net

Applications close at 9am on Monday 6th February 2023. Interviews are planned for later that week (date to be arranged)

Please be aware that we can only consider applications submitted using the available form via the Apply button.

All appointments will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure and applicants will be expected to demonstrate their entitlement to work in the UK. If you have worked outside of the UK, please provide a relevant police check for each country you have worked.

About Saltash Community School

OVERVIEW

The school is a mixed 11 to 18 comprehensive school established in its present form in 1968. The school converted to Academy Status in April 2011, and became part of a Multi Academy Trust (SMART) with one of its partner primaries, Landulph, in January 2014. The SMART family expanded in 2016 to include Liskeard and Looe Secondaries along with Dobwalls and Trewidland Primaries. Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, it occupies a 13 acre site overlooking Plymouth Sound and the Tamar, Tavy and Lynher rivers.

We serve our partner primary schools in the town, the rural primary schools at Landulph and St Germans as well as an increasing number of students from Plymouth and further afield in Cornwall.

We are proud of our livestock area containing pigs, rabbits, ducks, chickens and goats along with several allotments which enhance provision in many curriculum areas.

Our extensive sports fields, including a superb floodlit all-weather pitch, are amongst the best in the county, enabling us to offer a wide range of different sports to our students and local community.
