A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional leader to take overall responsibility for the leadership and management of Girls PE within a thriving and successful Physical Education Faculty. 

The school is proud of its broad and balanced curriculum and the Faculty plays a critical role in both the academic and wider life of the school and its ethos.  

We are looking for the right candidate who has the energy and drive to be a champion for female sport at the school and lead its development, whilst making a significant contribution to the PE Faculty as a whole. Our new Head of Girls PE will have the ability to take the impact of our work to even higher levels so that what Drayton Manor offers the education system continues to become ever more distinctive. 

Our PE staff model and instil on a daily basis the school’s core values of ambition, character and civic virtue through practice, teamwork, fair play and everybody endeavouring to be their best which fosters a culture of participation and success. There is a strong culture of developing older students who coach others and serve as role models and leaders for sport at the school. This year we have been excited to launch our pilot PE Scholars programme that will further develop students’ role in developing their skills to lead in sport as well as d serve as a role model to inspire others.

Our new Head of Girls PE will prepare and oversee the implementation of improvements in the PE curriculum intended to anchor our ethos and standards ever more deeply into the life of the school, building on what has already proven successful and drawing on the experience of other schools and from what has been proven through academic research. All students at Key Stage 3 study both PE and Games and the subject is consistently popular at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, with our school being one of the few who offer both GCSE and A level PE. Both the academic outcomes and sporting success of our students are second to none.  

The school has had considerable sporting success at both local, regional and national level in girls football, netball, cross country, handball and basketball and has a well-established culture of a wide range of clubs and teams at all levels. We are looking for a practitioner who strives for excellence in all that they do and believes in our aspirational ethos and the important role that sports and physical fitness can play in student success. The fit and commitment towards these goals and our ethos is extremely important to us.

The Faculty is well resourced with our two recently refurbished gyms, an all-weather surface, a new outdoor gym and a large and well maintained sports field a short walk from the main school site. In addition, the PE team and curriculum are supported by a dedicated PE Technician.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach across the whole age and ability range, up to and including GCSE and A Level PE. Leading by example in daily practice as well as supporting and challenging those they oversee to grow and develop are key aspects of the role in leading the team to deliver the very best learning opportunities for our students.

Drayton Manor recognise and value continued professional development. Deliberate Practice, Curriculum specific training and Instructional Coaching are at the heart of our pedagogical training model with every teacher having the opportunity to work one-to-one with an expert coach. Additionally, we have a legacy of developing educational leaders including supporting staff through a range of National Professional Qualifications. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to professional development in all areas of their practice.

Drayton Manor High School is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form in London serving students between the ages of 11-19. The secondary school, situated in Ealing as approximately 1,566 students on record. 

Formerly Drayton Manor Grammar School, Drayton Manor High School was established in 1930, changing to a comprehensive status in 1975. The secondary school converted to academy status in 2012 and was identified as outstanding by Ofsted in the same year.
