Job overview

The current staffing of the combined department consists of 8 teachers (full and part time) and an Early Years work placement officer. Because of the skill-set within the existing team, it is essential that the successful applicant can teach Health & Social Care although there may be some opportunity to teach other subjects.

Health & Social Care is well-established at the College, and consists of BTEC provision. Results in Health and Social Care are impressive with high levels of achievement and success on all courses. Progress made by students is excellent with ALPS grades 2 or 3 for both level 3 courses. The subject is highly valued by students, not least for the extensive support provided by the teaching staff for students. Most students progress to Higher Education.

Sociology recruits well - with over 50 students studying AS Sociology (3 groups), and two groups following the A2 course. Student achievement at A level Sociology is good – 100% pass rate, with high grades above national benchmark in 2016.

Students are prepared for the Early Years Educator level 3 qualification awarded by CACHE.  Results for each cohort have been very strong – with 100% pass rates and outstanding value-added (ALPS 2). The course is demanding, but provides students with a rich experience of both theory and practice, a licence to enter Early Years work, and the opportunity to progress to HE - which many do.

You will need strong personal skills to challenge, develop and inspire the team of talented professionals you will lead. You can expect the role to be demanding but professionally satisfying, within a supportive College committed to excellence in its service.

College Overview

Scarborough Sixth Form College is an open-access College, which provides general education primarily for 16-19 year olds in the area. The majority of our 1000+ students are full-time, and follow Advanced (level 3) courses from which most progress onto Higher Education.  The College has developed a very successful vocationally-related provision in a range of BTEC Nationals and we also offer a one-year Level 2 programme (our “Progression Year”) consisting of GCSEs in Maths, English and Science plus a range of BTEC Firsts.  Achievement at the College is high, and above national benchmarks, with outstanding positive value-added overall.  The College had an Inspection in December 2019 and was confirmed as a Good provider.

The College provides a pleasant environment in which to work, being set in attractive grounds on the edge of town. College campus facilities have been enhanced by almost £5 million investment. Scarborough itself offers an attractive coastline and beaches and is situated on the edge of the North York Moors, within easy reach of the City of York.
