Penistone Grammar School has a vacancy for a permanent Head of HeartSpace – (Curriculum Area Leader) with responsibility for Teaching and Learning within this area, and with the enthusiasm and drive to join the SEND team and contribute to its ongoing success. Our HeartSpace provision is our outstanding learning environment for students who have an EHCP.

About the role

You will be a Primary or Secondary Teacher with experience of leading SEND and/ or your own department, who has the determination and talent to make a difference in the life of each and every student you teach; a teacher and aspiring leader who shares our vision and can inspire our young people to achieve more than they believe is possible.

The successful candidate will lead their own department, alongside an Assistant Head (2nd in Department); you will have previous experience and a proven track record at KS2, 3 or 4 and will be excited at the opportunity of developing their career and will hold or be working towards the National Award in Special Educational Needs Coordination.

The Heart Space at Penistone Grammar School is a warm and welcoming space that aims to provide a very bespoke provision for students who have an EHCP with very specific needs, including; Social, Emotional Mental Health needs, Communication and Interaction difficulties, Learning and Cognition needs and/or Physical and Sensory requirements. Students who access the Heart Space have bespoke and personalised timetables which enables them to access a range of mainstream lessons that are supplemented with tailored lessons delivered in Heart Space by specialist teachers and a team of HLTAs and LSAs.

Penistone Grammar School really is a special place to work. There’s no doubt that our amazing student body of 1900 students, including 300 Post 16 students, and our state-of-the-art building set in beautiful surroundings, make coming to work worthwhile. However, what really makes Penistone the school it is, is our staff.
