Due to the promotion of the previous post holder, the opportunity has arisen to lead our successful, enthusiastic and talented history department.
Highfields is a vibrant and popular school with approximately 1200 students, including 200 in our sixth form. Our students are friendly and highly motivated. We were judged as a good school by Ofsted in May 2017 and are committed to continuous improvement in all aspects of our work. We are at an exciting stage of our development and this is a great opportunity to make a strong contribution to the life of the school.
The history department is a thriving part of our school, and is popular at GCSE and A level. The curriculum is rich and challenging and focuses on building students' enjoyment and interest along with the knowledge and skills required for examination success.
We wish to appoint a colleague to this post who has:
- A strong background in history, including experience of teaching to A level
- A passion for teaching, and a track record as a highly effective classroom practitioner
- The ability to inspire and motivate students and colleagues to achieve their best.

Highfields is situated in Matlock, the county town of Derbyshire, on the south eastern edge of the beautiful Peak District National Park. It is within easy reach of Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham.

About Highfields School
Highfields School is a vibrant, popular, mixed, non-denominational, mainstream secondary school in Matlock, Derbyshire. It caters to students aged 11 to 18 and has approximately 1,200 students including 250 at post 16. Our students are well-motivated and achieve good results. We were judged as a good school by Ofsted in May 2017. Highfields is situated in Matlock, the county town of Derbyshire, on the south eastern edge of the beautiful Peak District National Park. Highfields School was founded in 1982 when Ernest Bailey’s Grammar School and Charles White Secondary Modern School merged. It is known for performing arts. The school is located on two sites that are 1.8 miles apart: one for the lower school (Years 7-8) and one for the upper school (Years 9-11 and the sixth form).

Vision and values
Highfields School’s main aim is to provide a happy, caring environment that helps each pupil to reach their full potential. It seeks to challenge every student and ensure they become lifelong learners. The school’s primary values are inclusion and equality, respect and tolerance, celebration of achievement, honesty, and caring for the environment. Teachers encourage students to become active citizens in their community.
The secondary school specialises in performing arts, but offers a broad and balanced curriculum that covers core subjects such as English, maths, science, philosophy and RE, and PE. Extra-curricular activities are also considered important and a wide variety of clubs and teams explore arts and sports.
