Manor House School is seeking to appoint a Head of History (part-time) on the retirement of the current post holder. 

The Head of History is responsible for co-ordination of the subject across the Senior School (Years 7-11).  Reporting to the Head of Humanities, the Head of History will be accountable for pupil progress and development of the curriculum. This will include delivering an appropriately balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for all, which is engaging and stimulates pupils’ interest and progress.

The current post holder is the sole teacher of History for Years 8-11 and works three days a week, supporting the Head of Humanities who at present teaches Year 7 History. 

The Key Responsibilities are as follows:

Learning and Teaching 

• Develop and implement the subject curriculum 

• Teach an appropriate lesson load, to meet the needs of the curriculum 

• Assess and monitor pupil progress, taking action if intervention is required

• Encourage pupils to pursue History courses in post 16 places of study as appropriate

• Organise and oversee a club and revision classes each term

School improvement and quality assurance 

• Actively inspire and promote History throughout the school including supporting or leading Humanities based assemblies (usually twice yearly)

• Ensure all GCSE exam board requirements for History are fulfilled and delivered as specified

• Oversee internal assessments and ensure that examinations for History are set and administered professionally 

• Undertake professional development as agreed with school leaders 

• Be responsible for the development and upkeep of quality wall displays to promote a lively and stimulating environment  

Pupil Support 

• Work with individuals and small groups to deliver programmes to support learning, liaising with teachers and other staff as required  

• Meet with parents as necessary  

School Ethos

• Create and maintain a positive environment which secures good teaching, effective learning, high standards of attainment and good discipline across the department.  

• Contribute to and promote the development of a positive school ethos and achievement of the seven school values.  

• Contribute to the extra-curricular programme offering at least one club per term. 

• Perform additional duties and tasks required for the effective operation of the school as directed by the Headteacher
