Head of History
Wakefield Girls’ High School is looking for an enthusiastic, inspiring and qualified teacher to become our Head of History from September 2019. The successful candidate will lead and manage the day-to-day teaching and learning in their department. S/he should be a highly creative practitioner, an adaptable and innovative leader, a good motivator, communicator and administrator. S/he should be able to provide professional leadership and guidance on academic matters to enable the effective development of the subject area, its dedicated staff and talented pupils. There are also many CPD opportunities available at WGHS for your professional development.
The History Department enjoys excellent examination results, specialised resources and an extensive portfolio of fieldtrips and educational visits. In return, you will find yourself working with supportive colleagues and SLT and teaching motivated students. We deliver our curriculum in small classes, have high standards of student behaviour and strong parental support.
Applicants should have considerable experience of teaching History at Key Stage 3, GCSE and AS/A level; Oxbridge preparation would be preferable. Evidence of having led an initiative or managed colleagues would be an advantage.
The position is full time and permanent. Salary is MPS/UPS + a Management & Responsibility Allowance + a Wakefield Supplement. The Teachers’ Pension Scheme is also applicable. As part of our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, the successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check.

Wakefield Girls' High School, a selective independent school for girls aged 11-18, first opened its doors in 1878, at a time when the educational and social emancipation of women was accelerating. It occupies an extensive site in a conservation area near the centre of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The school became independent in 1982.
Wakefield Girls' High School forms part of the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation group of schools. Some teaching in Years 12 and 13 takes place jointly with Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, the boys' school in the foundation.
