Job overview

The School wishes to appoint a Head of Hockey for September 2023. The successful candidate will be expected to coach hockey to boys and girls across the age range.

The Head of Hockey will be a member of the Sports Department and report to the Director of Sport.

The post is likely to suit a person with energy, ambition and flair and who is willing to take on departmental as well as co-curricular and pastoral activities. The successful candidate must be ICT literate.

Applicants are likely to be hockey coaches/teachers or talented sporting individuals with appropriate experience and training.

There has been considerable investment in sport in recent years. This year has seen the opening of a second ATP, additional pitch-side changing facilities, a new football stand, 4 new hard cricket nets and a refurbished fitness suite added to the extensive sports facilities.

Ideally the successful candidate will be available throughout the year but a candidate who can offer coaching in just the first 2 terms of each school year would also be considered. Hours will be discussed at interview but core hours amount to approximately 25 hours per week, mainly in afternoons. Depending on the candidate there could be flexibility and additional hours may be available. Availability for Saturday fixtures and practices is a requirement.

The School currently participates fully in the government’s Teachers' Pensions Scheme and contributes to a private pension scheme for colleagues who are not eligible for the TPS. Candidates should note that the School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and that all appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check.

The School has a strong commitment to professional development and it is a condition of employment that all members of staff participate in any scheme of appraisal, review and professional development currently operating in the School. All staff have access to the fitness suite, free parking and free lunch during the term.

Closing date for applications is 6pm, Tuesday 14 February 2023

Early applications are encouraged and we reserve the right to interview and appoint candidates prior to the closing date.

The Director of Sport, Mr Andy Stephenson, will be pleased to talk to those seeking further information about the position. He can be contacted by telephone (01923 858122) or by email: aps@aldenham.com.

The School is committed to safeguarding, promoting British values, promoting the welfare of children and young people and the prevention of extremism and radicalisation. We actively oppose any form of discrimination on the grounds of any of the protected characteristics of the Equalities Act.

The school’s motto is: “In God is all our trust.”

ISI report

“The overall achievement of pupils throughout the school is excellent. Pupils develop well in knowledge, skills and understanding across all subject areas and some achieve excellent standards, particularly in the EYFS, the prep school and the sixth form.”

“Senior school pupils achieve at outstanding levels in activities. Pupils make good progress, and some, including those pupils with SEND or EAL make rapid progress although that of the gifted and talented is not as marked when teaching provides insufficient challenge.”
