Job overview

Do you have the vision and experience to ensure our students receive quality pastoral support? Are you committed to allowing all students to succeed by ensuring that any barriers to learning are removed?

With students from all around the globe, Westbourne Academy is a unique place to build your future. Between them, our students speak 32 languages, and their unique perspectives on learning and life make this a truly exciting place to be.

We believe that only by giving our staff exceptional skills can we help our students succeed, so you can be certain that your CPD will be rigorous, stretching and exciting. You can expect comprehensive support at every step of your career. We are also keen to enable our staff to get a positive work life balance, which is of the reasons why students finish early on a Wednesday, so staff can have an hour and a half CPD before 4:00.

What’s more, you will enjoy real input into the way we think and work: we welcome fresh ideas from our teachers and actively value their creativity and imagination. After securing an Ofsted ‘Good’ rating in March 2019, we are keen to explore how we can make our academy exceptional.

Ipswich is one of only 12 areas in the country to be included in the DfE’s Opportunity Areas Programme, meaning we receive additional funding aimed at improving social mobility. This allows us to offer enhanced packages to exceptional teachers, so your skills will be fully recognised and rewarded.

About this Vacancy

The academy has established a house system as part of its pastoral system. There are four houses, each led and managed by a Head of House and a Pastoral Leader. Each house is responsible for around 250 students, who are organised into twelve vertically organised tutor groups. We are looking for a colleague who is relentless in their support of students and who can enable them to make progress in their learning. Are you the kind of person who can build positive relationships with young people and empower our students to thrive? As a Head of Churchill House you will be integral to creating an ethos that allows all of our students to succeed.

We believe that all of our students should have a broad and balanced curriculum. You will be passionate about sharing the knowledge and skills related to your subject specialism. We are looking for a dynamic teacher who has proven experience of high quality teaching and outcomes. Are you ready to make a difference?

Join us, and you’ll also enjoy the ATT Together Platform, which includes benefits such as health cash plan, shopping discounts, cycle-to-work and gym schemes, cinema tickets and an employee assistance programme – plus all the satisfaction of helping students overcome their circumstances and get ahead in life.

About Westbourne Academy

Westbourne is a calm and happy school. We try not to take ourselves too seriously but know that preparing young people for the adult world is an important undertaking. Since opening, attitudes, aspirations and expectations have been transformed. We believe that our circumstances are quite unique and, therefore, that we can make a massive difference to the students we serve.

Currently we have around 1010 students. Many of our students do not have the easiest backgrounds and we are determined to ensure that we remove as many barriers to learning as possible. Around 30% of our students come from a disadvantaged background. We are delighted that Ipswich has been deemed an opportunity area for the DFe and look forward to taking an active part in this initiative to tackle disadvantage.

We also have the pleasure of 30% of our students speaking English as an additional language and value the cultural diversity they bring.
