Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and inspirational Head of House to join our highly successful, creative and ambitious guidance team. The successful candidate will be, first and foremost, an outstanding teacher with a strong pastoral background.

At Denefield School, the Head of House has responsibility for the leadership of one of four house teams, consisting of the deputy head of house, a student manager and a team of tutors each of whom is responsible for a vertical tutor group. Our Heads of House also work closely with subject and curriculum leaders to support the raising of aspirations and expectations to secure the progress of all students in their house. The role is crucial to every student’s personal development and academic success and, as such, the Head of House shares responsibility for the achievement of all students in their house.

You will have excellent decision making, communication and organisational skills which will enable you to impact on whole school development and will share in our CHARACTER values. In addition, you must demonstrate the ability to fulfil all aspects of the role, with confidence, through the medium of English. In return we will provide you with the opportunity to participate in an exceptional CPD programme and the chance to work collaboratively within a team of outstanding practitioners.

If you are looking for an exciting opportunity to drive your career forward, and if you share our belief in enabling potential and expecting the best from all students, we would love to hear from you. Further details, including an application form, can be downloaded from our website. Informal visits to the school, or indeed our day nursery, for which we offer generous term time only contracts for children of staff, are welcome prior to application and can be scheduled via the Headteacher’s PA, on 0118 972 8952.

Denefield School is committed to safer recruitment and CV's will not, therefore, be accepted. As a school, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure and employment references will be requested. CVs will not be accepted.

Denefield School is an equal opportunities employer and selects staff on merit, irrespective of race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

Closing date: 9.00am, Tuesday 21 March
Interviews: Tuesday 28 March

Both teaching and support staff are committed, enthusiastic and hardworking, all believing firmly that we should help students to be and do their best. Top reasons to work at Denefield

  • Strong behaviour systems – we believe in clear routines, appropriate responses and outstanding relationships fuelled by mutual respect. This means that students can learn in lessons and teachers can teach. We centralise detentions so that teachers are free to think about curriculum and pedagogy.
  • Great curriculum resources – clear and coherent schemes of work that mean you can focus on how you teach.
  • Commitment to high quality CPD – we’ll support and challenge you as an individual so you can develop your skills as a teacher - whatever your career stage or experience.
  • Work smarter not harder – we focus on evidence-based approaches where teacher-time spent is commensurate with the impact on student outcome. This means, for example, that we use whole-class feedback rather than individual comments because at Denefield, we want you spending time on things that will actually make a difference!
  • Staff well-being as a priority – we care about our staff as teachers and as people. Teams work very closely together and support each other day-to-day. Our commitment to your health and well-being is centred around making sure you are only asked to do the things that make the most difference to our students, but we also sign up to initiatives like 'bike to work' and offer all staff a free winter flu vaccination and access to an employee assistance programme.

We welcome applications from international teachers and are able to sponsor eligible candidates. Please come and visit or get in touch to find out more about Denefield.

Denefield is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All short-listed candidates will be subject to online searches and any successful candidates will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check along with other relevant pre-employment checks.
