This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, innovative leader with strong curriculum understanding to join us as Head of Humanities. You will provide strategic leadership to your subject leaders (Geography, History, RE and Citizenship), with a clear focus on continuing to drive improvements in teaching, curriculum design and progress across the Faculty. The successful candidate will benefit from the support of an experienced, innovative and ambitious senior leadership team.

We would love to hear from you if you are an inspirational, dynamic and creative individual who makes learning fun and challenging, and who is looking to join a supportive and enthusiastic team in beautiful rural surroundings.

At Helena Romanes we value the personal attributes of hard work, positivity and kindness, and we are looking for someone who can model these values.

We are committed to promoting equality of opportunity, celebrating diversity, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

The school is a popular and successful 11-18 comprehensive, situated in the beautiful North Essex countryside. It has good communications to London and the South East, and it is approximately 7 miles from Stansted Airport.

We are a mixed 4 – 18 Academy with over 1200 pupils on roll. The school is situated in beautiful countryside, occupying approximately 35 acres just to the north of Great Dunmow.

The school was established in 1958 and is named in honour of the first Chair of Governors.

At Helena Romanes, we are ambitious for our pupils and we offer them a rich and varied curriculum. Our pupils develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that enables them to move successfully into higher education, apprenticeships, training or employment.

While academic achievement is of crucial importance, we also ensure that we focus effectively on developing our pupils’ personal, social and creative skills. Our aim is that pupils leave Helena Romanes as successful, confident and considerate young adults.

We are very proud of our pupils. They are superb ambassadors for our school when they represent us locally, nationally and internationally, participating in our many and varied extra-curricular activities.

At Helena Romanes, we have a large team of well-qualified, dedicated staff who focus on supporting pupils’ progress and well-being. We work closely with parents, carers and the wider community to ensure we provide a well-coordinated approach to our pupils’ learning and development.
