Location: Poole Dorset, BH15 4BQ
Salary: United Learning Pay Scale (PT or EPT – depending on experience) plus negotiable TLR

Welcome to Carter Community School, a small, friendly secondary school that lies at the heart of its community.

Students at Carter enjoy coming to school and want to do well. This ethos has been accomplished through a shared belief, by both staff and students, in high expectations, positive relationships, and enthusiasm in teaching and learning. Here at Carter, we believe that all students deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their background. Through constant support and challenge, we achieve this aim.

People often say, after their first visit to Carter Community School, how distinctive the school is, how pioneering we are and yet also how our care and compassion clearly permeates through everything we do. Imagine then, how transformative that environment is for the children who study and grow into adults here.

This is an exciting time to join Carter Community School. You will have the opportunity to work with a staff team that is supportive, friendly and dedicated to providing the best for our students. Alongside this, it is projected that the school will double in size over the next five years, meaning that future opportunities will be presented for staff and students. If you share our ambition of providing the very best teaching and learning and you are seeking an exciting, challenging and rewarding career, we would encourage you to apply for this role.

The role

Experienced Humanities Teacher required to join and lead a dedicated and growing Humanities department, within an Academy and leading education Group, offering unrivalled career development opportunities.

As Head of Humanities you will ensure the highest standards of learning, achievement and development for all students working within Humanities. This will be achieved through clear and effective leadership of subject staff. The role will feed into all missions laid down in the school development plan.

We’re focused on improving our drive to encourage every student to strive to achieve the very best they can be. If you share our ambition and are an outstanding classroom practitioner, it’s an exciting time to join our school.

As part of a cluster you will also benefit from being able to work closely with colleagues across five United Learning secondary academies in Bournemouth and Poole, including exciting opportunities to teach A Level at the United Sixth Form campus in Bournemouth (if desired) and become a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) or Lead Practitioner
Our school lies at the heart of its community. As a result of high expectations, enthusiastic teaching and very positive relationships, students enjoy school and want to do well.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Be a high-level classroom practitioner with a wide range of teaching skills;
  • Have excellent inter-personal skills enabling effective team leadership;
  • Have the ability to evaluate the work of others and enable their development through consultation, coaching and support;
  • Have the ability to analyse data and information, identify patterns and trends;
  • Have the ability to formulate strategies for improved learning as a result of the above.

This role attracts a negotiable TLR; the focus of which will be discussed during the interview stages.

United Learning

Carter Community School is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.
