The Role

We are very excited to recruit an energetic and experienced head of faculty to not only inspire in the classroom but manage a dynamic and forward looking IT Department that has a tradition of progressive and innovative teaching. Our teaching and leadership team is devised of a group of highly intelligent and capable educators and we look forward to welcoming you to our School.

This is a challenging, varied role that would suit a candidate with experience in similar environments and enthusiastic about contributing to school life.

The successful candidate would ideally be able to teach Maths and participate in a full extra-curricular programme including coaching across some of the key sports of rugby, football, cricket and hockey (netball, tennis and athletics would be an advantage).

A willingness to take part in the busy boarding and weekend community is essential. A keen interest in outdoor pursuits would be an advantage too.

Please be aware this role would sit specifically at Abberley Hall Preparatory School (this is not a secondary teaching position).

Main purpose of the role:

  • To inspire in pupils and colleagues alike, through a palpable enthusiasm and fascination for IT and Maths.
  • As Head of IT and Networking Manager have a passion for information technology in its broadest sense and all the dynamic and evolving media and its uses.
  • An innovator able to understand developing methods, systems, process and procedures and able to transfer the logic of IT is key to this post: not only of word processing and computing but an imaginative use of all forms of IT and associated media.
  • To lead the IT Department and manage the system and necessary evolving changes that will continue to benefit pupil and staff alike within resources.
  • To carry out the professional duties of an IT and Maths teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the departmental and general teaching policies.
  • To inspire learning by establishing a relationship with pupils and creating and effective learning environment.
  • To foster and encourage the appropriate personal skills and qualities which enable the development of the pupil and the ability to manipulate media.
  • To link pupil’s knowledge to earlier learning and encourage further development, challenging and inspiring pupil’s continual learning.
  • To provide learning opportunities for pupils of all ability levels and to encourage pupils to discover their interests.

The School

Abberley Hall is a co-educational school which takes children from the age of 2 ½ to 13. The Prep school (age 8 to 13) is predominantly a boarding school. The Nursery and Pre-prep departments are for day pupils only.

It operates in and around a Victorian country house which is set on a hillside amongst 98 acres of woodland. The site is a mix of historic buildings, modern classrooms, sporting and arts facilities.

Abberley Hall is a coeducational school for children aged between two and 13 in the Worcestershire countryside. Children attend the pre-preparatory school and nursery up to the age of 7, before joining the boarding and day preparatory school from the age of eight. The grounds extend across 90 acres, parts of which are used as an Outdoor Learning area and for playing sport or participating in after-school activities. Around 300 pupils are taught at the school, spending a significant amount of time outdoors. Lessons in French, drama, science and PE lessons are provided from an early age.

The well-resourced outdoor play areas, including the Nursery garden, enable the younger children in the Nursery to engage in imaginative role play and adventurous physical activities. All children respond well to the staff's expectations of them and, as a result, they are enthusiastic and motivated learners."
