Head of Junior School

Hereford Cathedral Junior SchoolHerefordshire

The Headmaster and Governing Body of Hereford Cathedral School invite applications for the role of Head of the Junior School from April or September 2022.

Counted amongst the oldest schools in the country, Hereford Cathedral School is proud of its reputation for offering a high-quality, all-round education and its history of developing young people of character, with integrity, empathy and resilience. This thriving co-educational day and boarding school aims to provide a happy and inclusive environment for all its 745 pupils aged 3-18 in which every member feels challenged and fulfilled. Situated in the beautiful surroundings of Hereford Cathedral Close, the School offers endless opportunities for pupils to participate, to set their sights high, to feel valued for who they are, and to be able to live life to the full.

The School is a member of the Choir Schools Association, as it educates all of the Cathedral Choristers aged 7–14. Close liaison with the Cathedral’s Chapter and music department, as well as with the choristers’ parents, is a key aspect of the Head of Junior School’s role. The Junior School, which is housed in a mixture of old and new buildings located on Castle Street, combines three schools: the Nursery, Pre-Prep and Junior School which educate pupils from the ages of 3 – 11. The Junior School provides the foundation of each child’s educational journey at HCS focusing on the development of the whole person through a community based on happiness and a genuine love of learning. Traditional values, which include good manners, honesty, integrity, kindness, and consideration for others are all cultivated within a safe and caring environment underpinned by outstanding pastoral care.

This is an excellent opportunity for an innovative and ambitious Head to work as part of an exceptional leadership team as Hereford Cathedral School moves into the next chapter of its rich history. Working closely with the new Headmaster and the Governing Body, this is a truly exciting post for a forward-looking leader to help realise the School’s exciting aspirations articulated in ‘Our Vision 2030’. Applications are welcome from candidates from both the independent and state sector, with a range of experience and backgrounds.
