Job overview

St Edmund’s School Canterbury is seeking an inspirational and dynamic leader for the position of Head of Junior School in September 2020.

St Edmund’s School is a special place: a historic day and boarding co-educational school where a family atmosphere is fostered, individuals are valued, and pupils enjoy a rich academic and cultural experience. A broad academically rigorous curriculum and an extraordinarily diverse co-curricular programme enables pupils to find their path and grow to ‘be all they can be’. Set within beautiful grounds overlooking the Cathedral city of Canterbury, the Junior School is an integral part of the School and is a happy, vibrant and mutually supportive community with approximately 190 pupils ranging from age 7 to 13, including the Choristers of Canterbury Cathedral.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in education management impacting on standards and effectiveness, with a passion for making a difference to young people’s lives, a commitment to ensuring outstanding pastoral care for pupils and a positive working environment for their staff.

As well as being responsible for the leadership and management of all staff and the day-to-day running of the Junior School, the Head is a key member of the Executive Group that oversees the 3-18 school, and thus plays a central role in the development and implementation of the School’s strategic plan.  Supported by a strong leadership team covering academic, pastoral and safeguarding functions, the Head must be able to manage diverse challenges while providing effective direction and leadership.

We pride ourselves on the warm, nurturing culture of the School and staff share a deep commitment to supporting the individual needs of pupils; every pupil here is known, understood and nurtured.  The Head must embody these characteristics and also possess stamina, mental agility and an approachable, positive outlook.

Benefits of the role, in addition to a highly competitive salary include a family house on the School site, Teachers' Pension, Healthcare, free parking and free lunch.

St Edmund’s is an equal opportunities employer, committed to the safeguarding and promoting of children and young people. We expect all staff to share this commitment and the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and satisfactory employment references.

Closing date for receipt of applications is 09.00 am 27th January 2020.
