The British Schools, a private, coeducational, non-profit and non-denominational day school with approximately 1400 students and 220 staff members, seeks a Head of Junior.

Closing Date: 10th July, 2020.

The British Schools aims to provide a bilingual education which combines the Uruguayan national curriculum with a strong English language international programme. We are one of the founding members of the IB, authorised for the PYP and Diploma programmes, and a member of LAHC.

The School offers an exciting academic environment in which all members of the community strive to instil a love of learning and to prepare students to meet the challenges of the 21st century. There is a strong extra-curricular programme, especially in sport and the arts.
 
Due to the retirement of the current postholder, applications are sought for a new Head of Junior (Foundation to Year 7 UK). The person should to be an effective, innovative and visionary leader. The Head of Junior reports to the Principal, and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT)

Essential Experience, Qualifications and Skills required:

  • A first degree or teaching qualification in Junior/Primary/Elementary education
  • Senior leadership experience in a Junior school setting 
  • Experience with the IB PYP programme
  • Experience and desire to seek innovative solutions to problems
  • A confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills  
  • A fluent English speaker. A knowledge of Spanish, or a willingness to learn, is a distinct advantage
  • Interest in developing the use of IT in a Junior setting
  • A willingness to involved oneself fully in extra-curricular activities


Key Responsibilities:

  • To work closely with, and report to, the Principal
  • Overall responsibility for the Management of Junior, including timetabling and curriculum development
  • To ensure that Junior meets the standard of education expected in accordance to the Mission Statement
  • Responsibility for maintaining IB and other accreditations relevant to Junior


The conditions of the contract will be competitive in terms of remuneration, benefits, full health coverage and housing comparable to positions of a similar level of prestige and responsibility.
