St Margaret's is a small, independent day school for girls aged 4 to 16. One of the oldest schools in Hampstead, it has been educating girls from all over North London (and beyond) for over 100 years. Privately owned from 1884 until 1954, it is now governed by a charitable trust.

Located in a quiet, residential street, we nevertheless benefit from close proximity both to the natural beauty of Hampstead Heath and to the multiple transport links of Finchley Road.

Our school building was originally a large house. Although much extended and adapted to meet modern educational needs, it still retains a homely feel, which contributes to the secure, family atmosphere which is central to the character of the school.

We are a small school (around 170 girls in total) and our size enables us to give all our pupils the close attention and individual help they need to best develop their talents. We cater for a wide range of academic ability and our SATS and GCSE results demonstrate the progress which the girls make over their time here.

Proud as we are of our academic success, at St Margaret's we believe that education is about much more than excellent exam results. Just as significant are the lessons girls learn outside the formal classroom setting: St Margaret's girls are encouraged to be kind, thoughtful and respectful of others. When their time with us comes to an end, we are proud to send them out to other schools and the wider world, as confident, mature young women.
