Job overview

The candidate will be a UK qualified teacher with either a QTS honours Degree or a PGCE qualification and have training in Special Educational Needs. The Head of Learning Support will lead the Secondary Learning Support Team in identification of ,and provision for, pupils with specific learning difficulties in the Secondary school. Particular focus is required in the following areas: 

the identification and provision of learning support and liaison with learning support assistants;

working closely with the Head of Learning  Support in the Primary school; 

working closely with Head of Year, Heads of Department, class teachers and other staff to share responsibility for pupil progress;

provide effective line management for the Secondary Learning Support Team; 

Liaise with SLT on key matter and matters and the direction of Learning Support.

JOB PURPOSE 

• To help raise standards of pupil attainment and achievement across the curriculum and to monitor and support pupil progress; 

• To share accountability for pupil progress and development; 

• To help support the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum, in accordance with the aims and policies of the school;  

• To promote the integrated role of Learning Support in the wider life of the school, including through extra-curricular activities; 

• To play an active role in developing, sustaining and modelling the skills, attributes and behaviours of a high-performing teaching and learning team;

 • To be responsible for access arrangements for examinations and liaise with the Examinations Officer 

• To ensure that IEPs are effectively shared with all staff and student profiles are regularly updated 

• To work with the Admissions team to advise on any students who have additional learning needs 

• To work in collaboration with outside agencies in order to provide a holistic approach for students and parents 

• To be able to deliver or co-ordinate specific diagnostic test to support students with learning needs 

• To provide written reports to line managers or governors when required

EXPERIENCE 

1. Proven successful experience of teaching across the Secondary School age; ability range and of raising student achievement; 

2. Dyslexia training or qualifications desirable 

3. Experience of monitoring the progress of individuals and cohorts of pupils;

 4. Experience of identifying and providing effective learning support for pupils with a range of specific and general learning difficulties, physical/medical impairment, language and communication difficulties and/or emotional and social difficulties; 

5. Proven successful experience of leading and developing a team.
