We are seeking applications for a Head of Department/SENCO to join our Learning Support team. The successful candidate would be expected to co-ordinate the provision for students with SEND and oversee the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEND policies. The right candidate will ensure high-quality teaching and effective use of resources to ensure that SEND students achieve their potential.

If you are the person we are looking for, you will possess the ability to work effectively with all students, engaging them through exciting yet challenging lessons and embedding a culture of positive behaviour for learning.  You will promote the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people and take appropriate action when required. And, most importantly, you will be committed to our school ethos of ‘all different, all equal,’ instilling high expectations in all our students.

Kenton School is a mixed, mainstream, non-denominational secondary school in Newcastle upon Tyne. It caters to students aged 11-18 and has 2,010 pupils at full capacity, including 300 in the sixth form.

Kenton School was opened to pupils and staff on 17th March 1961 as a maintained comprehensive school. After 47 years in the original buildings, the school moved into new state-of-the-art premises in 2008.

Kenton School converted to academy status in 2012. In 2014, it formed Kenton Schools Academy Trust. This multi-academy trust opened Studio West, a new studio school, in West Denton in 2014.
