Job overview

CATS College Canterbury is a coeducational independent boarding school catering mainly for international students aged 14+. The College specialises in preparing students for pre-university exams, including I/GCSEs, A Levels, the International Baccalaureate (DP) and the University Foundation Programme (UFP). We are accredited by the Independent Schools Inspectorate and the college achieved the highest rating in its recent ISI inspection (March 2019) and was rated ‘fully compliant’ in all areas covering boarding, welfare, achievement and results, curriculum, extra activities, pastoral care, leadership and teaching. The school’s capacity is around 450 students, class size average is nine across all programmes, and students take part in an extensive range of extra-curricular activities including leadership awards and national/international competitions. The College is part of the CATS Global Schools

As a teacher and leader this is a fantastic and truly unique environment. Class sizes are small and students are motivated to learn and ultimately progress to excellent universities. Hence applicants who particularly relish teaching at A-level standard will find CATS Canterbury hugely enjoyable and fulfilling.

We support all employees to develop professionally and support CPD through internal and external INSET tailored to the colleges and individual's needs. We offer a vast choice of opportunities including research projects, TeachMeets / LeadMeets, Chartered College of Teaching events and we are collaborating with UCL to run NPQ programmes. All employees have access to LinkedIn Learning where they can take part in professional or personal development through online courses.

Our teachers do not have teaching commitments at weekends, enjoy extended Summer Holidays and also benefit from free meals.

We are looking for a talented, motivated and enthusiastic individual to lead the Mathematics and Computing department at CATS Canterbury. The successful candidate will be able to develop and enhance our current provision by promoting a culture of continual improvement and enrichment for both their teaching team and students. As a teacher and leader this is a fantastic and truly unique environment, where we offer a supportive and friendly working environment for teachers to thrive.

The Mathematics and Computing subjects are very popular subjects with our students, who also often apply to related university courses, both nationally and internationally. Hence we are not only looking for a Leader and Teacher who can harness the international contexts of our classrooms and offer an inclusive environment for students to engage in dialogue and develop their academic skills, but also someone who can drive engaging co-curricular opportunities for our students and staff.

For September 2022, we are looking for a person who has:

•   Subject specialism in Mathematics, with a degree in a related discipline;

•   Ability to teach Further Mathematics/STEP Mathematics (desirable);

•   Experience managing co-curricular activities for our students, such as the Maths Olympiad and Maths Challenge.

•   A proven record of excellent and reflective classroom practice;

•   Ability to lead the strategic direction of the department;

•   Ability to manage and support their team;

•   Ability to coordinate all teaching and learning activities across the department;

•   Good data management skills;

•   Ability to represent and promote their department across the school and group;

•   Ability to collaborate with the other Curriculum Directors to drive whole-school initiatives;

•   Enthusiasm for continued professional learning;

•   Interest in, and knowledge of, national and international current affairs related to the Mathematics and Computing disciplines
