London Academy of Excellence (LAE) is seeking to recruit a superior mathematician to become its substantive second-in-charge of Mathematics and Further Mathematics. The role will involve being Acting Head of Department for the school year 2025-26 while the incumbent post holder is on maternity leave.

The LAE is one of the most successful 'maths schools' in the country and unrivalled in its commitment to recruiting maths scholars from disadvantaged backgrounds. LAE mathematicians from all backgrounds progress in substantial numbers to some of the most competitive universities and medical schools in the UK and around the world.

As 2iC, the successful candidate will have a range of specific responsibilities commensurate with the role, including line management of several departmental colleagues. As Acting Head of Department, the successful candidate will help support the school's growth and transition into its new school building in September 2026.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding and experienced Teacher of A Level Maths and Further Maths who wants to develop their teaching practice and leadership skills. Higher degree qualifications in Maths or a related discipline are highly desirable, as is familiarity with the Edexcel A Level Mathematics specification; though exceptional candidates with other qualifications and experiences are encouraged to apply. All candidates will be expected to evidence a passion for mathematics and for extending the opportunities of a first-rate mathematical education to students, irrespective of background or personal circumstances.
