Melbury College wish to appoint a talented and ambitious Head of Mathematics who can motivate and challenge pupils in a specialist learning environment. The successful candidate will have good knowledge of specific learning difficulties and a variety of behaviour management strategies to support children with challenging behaviours.


We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Head of Maths who can lead a small department, who has a strong commitment to raising standards of teaching and learning and who can promote a positive school culture. 

Melbury College is a partnership that includes Melrose School, Primary and Secondary Campuses (Special School for pupils with SEMH), Canterbury Campus (Secondary PRU), the Merton Medical Education Service and the Merton Alternative Education Service, as well as the new Whatley Campus (ASD/ SpLD) opening September 2022.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed teacher to work within a dedicated and successful team. 


The post requires the teacher to lead the Maths department across Melbury College, as well as plan and deliver suitable education provision for the pupils in Melrose School.  The teacher will have a lead role in co-ordinating the education provision for the pupils, teaching a broad and balanced curriculum as well as establishing and maintaining partnerships with parent/carers and local services.


Candidates should have:

• an excellent teaching record

• previous management experience within a small department

• experience of the use of restorative practices and effective behaviour management skills as well as good rapport with challenging pupils.

• ability to monitor and review through self-evaluation, report writing and a clear system of record keeping

• ability to teach flexibly, innovatively  and responsively in a challenging environment

• evidence of ability to successfully manage and support pupils with SEMH 

• the ability to plan and deliver outstanding teaching and learning for both individuals and small groups with high quality outcomes for all pupils
