We are seeking a Head of Modern Foreign Languages with the drive, imagination and energy to deliver excellence in the MFL department in a school where success in languages is a clear focus. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘Students First’. You will ensure effective teaching and learning is in place in MFL to ensure outstanding outcomes for students and increased numbers studying MFL at GCSE.

Outwood Academy Adwick is one of 22 Secondary Academies in Outwood Grange Academies Trust. Being part of the Trust means that all staff have access to excellent opportunities for professional development at all levels, with scope to build a career across a range of schools. In MFL there is a dedicated team of Directors who provide subject specific CPD and in school support to ensure that quality teaching and learning leads to outstanding outcomes for all students.

An excellent knowledge and understanding of modern foreign languages is essential. The MFL Department at Outwood Academy Adwick currently offers Spanish in Years 7 & 8 and Spanish & French to GCSE. Therefore, successful applicants will offer Spanish as a main language and knowledge of French to GCSE is desirable. We are looking for an excellent teacher and inspiring leader who has high aspirations for both staff and students, who is committed and passionate about providing young people with the best possible education whatever their background or ability.

We are an 11-18 academy based just north of the large, friendly, South Yorkshire town of Doncaster.

We have been a member of the Outwood Family since 2009, and in our 2023 Ofsted inspection the academy was graded Good in all categories. The inspection noted ‘the school has a supportive and caring culture. Staff build arm and friendly relationships with pupils. Pupils achieve their full potential. Staff are proud to work at the school’.

We offer a holistic education that makes learning stimulating, engaging and enjoyable for every student.

The inspectors were equally complimentary about our sixth form provision, with a wide range of courses on offer; including A Levels, vocational qualifications and T-levels.

We have also won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, in addition to being an IQM Centre of Excellence for 3 years, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.
