Head of MFL

Main Pay Range/Upper Pay Range + TLR + Pension Scheme (TPS), Healthcare package & additional AET Benefits.

Permanent, Full Time

September 2023 or earlier if possible

We are looking for a Head of MFL with a specialism in Spanish and French to lead, manage and develop the department, maximising student achievement and progress. At Maltings Academy, the study of Modern Foreign Languages provides young people with the knowledge and skills to express their ideas and thoughts in another language. As they broaden the limits of their world, students understand and respond in speech and writing. They will also be able to understand a variety of information as they develop listening and reading skills.

We are a small but cohesive department that is well resourced and committed to helping our students with a love for languages. At KS3 and KS4, we offer both Spanish and French and we are committed to increasing the number of students who opt to take a language for GCSE. We try to enhance students' experiences in languages by celebrating languages throughout the year and also an annual optional Languages and Arts trip to Barcelona.

Maltings is a 11-16 academy based in Witham, Essex. Situated between the cities of Chelmsford and Colchester, the academy has 900 students on roll and benefits from a purpose-built building that was constructed in 2011. There are excellent transport links to London which enables our staff and young people to take full advantage of the wealth of opportunities that London provides. Free car parking facilities are available on site.

We welcome applications from middle leaders with a strong track record leading a department, as well as those who have other leadership experience or experienced teachers ready for their next challenge.

There are excellent development and career progression opportunities available. A Recruitment and Retention Allowance will be available for an exceptional candidate.

Visits to the academy are encouraged. For an informal discussion about the post please contact Sarah Howson, Head of Department - Humanities: showson@maltingsacademy.org.

Closing date: 17th April 2023

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive an overwhelming response. All candidates are advised to refer to the job description and person specification before making an application.

In line with our safeguarding practices we are unable to accept CV’s. Apply today.
