Job overview

Are you an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher of MFL looking for a new challenge in an Outstanding Trust?

Come and join our team at Outwood Academy Kirkby!

We are seeking a Head of MFL with the drive and vision to deliver excellence in languages lessons for all year groups. You should possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘Students First’.

You will ensure effective teaching and learning is in place in MFL to ensure outstanding outcomes for students and increased numbers studying MFL at GCSE.

Our people are at the heart of our success. Outwood Grange Academies Trust is at the forefront of education and training; we are part of the School-Led Development Trust that will lead the new National Institute of Teaching. Being part of the Trust therefore means that all staff have access to excellent opportunities for professional development at all levels, and with scope to build a career across a range of schools.

In MFL there is a dedicated team of Directors who invest in staff with support, coaching, mentoring, and a wide range of top-quality subject specific training programmes to ensure that quality teaching and learning leads to outstanding outcomes for all students.

Our MFL teams across the Trust achieve excellent results for our students. Our Trust average MFL scores for 2022 are well above national average with progress at +0.01, grade 4+ 83.5% and grade 5+ 74.2%. We are looking for individuals who love their subject, have a passion to develop this in others, and are committed to putting Students First.

The MFL Department at Outwood Academy Kirkby offers French Y7 to GCSE, and currently has a Y11 Spanish GCSE group, therefore successful applicants are required to be able to teach French and Spanish to GCSE. We are looking for an inspiring leader, passionate about language learning, who has high aspirations for both staff and students and is committed to putting Students First. Leadership experience is not essential, but applicants must be able to demonstrate the skills required to lead a department.

As a Trust, we are always planning ahead and are excited about welcoming new recruits to come and join us who share our vision of “Students First, Raising Standards and Transforming Lives”. Every effort will be made to try and accommodate any specific requirements so that no-one is at a disadvantage.

If you are interested, please apply now! We are really keen to ensure that you have as much information to proceed with your application as possible, so if you would like a conversation either about the academy or the position, please email Jessica Hofheinz, Associate Director of MFL on j.hofheinz@outwood.com, who will be happy to assist.
