Job overview

Concord College is England’s premier co-educational boarding school set in the heart of the Shropshire countryside with 554 students aged 13-19. Historic buildings sit alongside our state-of-the-art facilities which include areas providing extra-curricular activities, sport and recreation. We are truly international with upwards of 40 nationalities represented, which creates a wonderfully diverse community.

Academic achievement at Concord College has been described as ‘exceptional’ (ISI 2013). Over the last two academic years, students have achieved an average of 82% A*/A at GCSE and 80% A*/A at A level. We are also delighted that 70 students have been offered places at Oxford and Cambridge between 2015 and 2017.

We wish to appoint a well-qualified, inspiring and motivated Head of MFL who can lead a team of language specialists to promote interest in, and enjoyment of, all language learning at the College from September 2017. The successful candidate will be passionate about their subject with the capability of teaching at least one of the college’s principal Modern Foreign Languages (i.e. one from Spanish or French) to A level and a second Modern Foreign Language to GCSE. They will also possess the ability to encourage students to be independent learners and foster the development of their linguistic skills and knowledge of different cultures.  A willingness to contribute to the broader life of the college is expected.

We offer a generous remuneration package which includes a salary significantly above Main Scale, a personal tutor allowance, duty payments, free meals, Teachers’ Pensions and private health insurance.

The closing date for applications is 28 February 2017 at midday. Interviews will take place on Wednesday 8th March 2017.
