Job overview

Head of Middle School

St George’s the English International School, Munich, Germany.

St George’s School seeks a well-qualified professional to lead our Middle School Department (ages 11-14), to begin August, 2018.

The School

Having opened in September 2013, St George’s School Munich has rapidly developed into a thriving community of over 300 pupils and 35 teachers. The school continues to grow, and as the school matures we expect to reach 800 pupils. The school’s ethos of combining an enriching curriculum with family orientated care makes the school a warm and engaging place to work and learn.

In September 2017, the school embarked on an exciting phase of its development, as it moved to a new, purpose-built campus located in the city. These premises provide first-class educational facilities for all ages and subject areas.

The National Curriculum is taught throughout the school and we offer IGCSE qualifications to pupils in our Upper School. The school is currently undergoing IB accreditation, and we intend to start teaching the IB Diploma Programme in September 2018.

One of a group of three schools located across Germany, St George’s offers the successful applicant an exciting range of opportunities for professional development and growth across the school group.

The Location

Located on a campus in the vibrant residential district of Schwabing, St George’s School is well connected to the city centre and the greater Munich metropolitan area. The English Garden and Olympic Park both lie a short distance from the school.

Germany’s third largest city, and the capital of the state of Bavaria, Munich is a dynamic and vibrant cultural centre, with a large and diverse international community. Situated on the northern edge of the Alps, Munich offers a high standard of living, as well as numerous opportunities for travel and outdoor pursuits.

Munich airport is located 30km from the school, with many daily flights to the UK, and high speed rail services connect Munich to a wide range of European destinations.

The Role

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a dynamic and forward thinking middle school leader. St George’s School, Munich is a growing institution and as such will allow the successful candidate to shape the future of the school’s development. Our Secondary School currently provides a broad curriculum to over 100 students from the age of 11 to 16 years, and in 2018 will introduce a Sixth Form to this structure. Its success to date has been built by dedicated and caring teachers who have contributed keenly both to the individual development of students, as well as to the school as a whole.

We are seeking to appoint an energetic and progressive Head of Middle School who is able to build on the excellent work in this area to date. Pupils in our Secondary School follow the National Curriculum, taking IGCSE examinations at 16 and the IB Diploma at 18.

The Head of Middle School is a key member of the school’s management team. This appointment requires an excellent communicator with a proven record in leading a large number of staff, whilst promoting whole school interests and requirements. Experience managing budgets, driving action plans, promoting pupil progress and welfare, as well as working closely with parents, is essential to this role.
