Haberdashers’ Aske’s Crayford Academy is 30 minutes from London Bridge by train and the school’s proximity to the capital is a strong factor in enabling teachers to enhance the cultural experience for our pupils through enrichment activities.

The Role

We are looking to appoint an outstanding, motivated teacher with a proven track record of achievement to lead an established department, promoting interest in this popular and successful subject across the full age range of the school. Currently pupils study either Spanish or French at key stage 3 with both languages becoming a popular choice for GCSE; our first cohort of year 13 students include those studying Spanish A level.  

You will have specific responsibility for the progress and attainment of students in Modern Foreign Languages and will oversee curriculum change and development where necessary.   

We will expect you to manage and continue developing a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for the subject area which is in keeping with the Academy’s aims for our pupils. We will also expect you to further promote studying MFL at GCSE and A-Level to further improve uptake of languages post KS3. There is the opportunity for the successful candidate to improve the existing standards of student attainment and achievement through your fresh ideas, motivational skills and keen focus on improvement. You will join a team of creative, supportive and reflective middle leaders who play a key role in driving school improvement.

The Candidate

We are seeking an outstanding practitioner with an established track record of delivering outstanding pupil progress in the classes they teach. Some leadership experience, whether as a 2i/c, or another leadership role within a school where you have managed a team is preferable but not essential. The successful candidate will be well qualified with outstanding subject knowledge in both Spanish and French at KS3 and KS4. The candidate must be a compelling communicator with an ability to champion the subject to pupils with a fully comprehensive range of abilities. The candidate must also have the ability to teach Spanish at A level.
