Head Of Modern Languages

Salary: MPS/UPS & TLR 1a

Start date: September 2021

Closing date for applications: Monday 10th May @ 8.00am

Interviews will take place: TBC

We are looking for an excellent Head Of Modern Languages, TLR 1a, to join our team in September 2021 and help us transform the lives of children. This is an opportunity to join the middle-leadership of a school where the ambition is a simple one: to become the highest performing school in the UK within 5 years. We serve the best children in the country and they deserve and will receive, a world class education.

We are undoubtedly one of the most improved schools in the country but this will not be a school that will appeal to everyone. Please only apply if you passionately believe:

  • That every child should leave school fluent in another language.
  • Background or home-life is not an excuse for failure or poor behaviour.
  • Every student should have the option to attend University when they leave.
  • Discipline, hard work, consistency and routines underpin student wellbeing and happiness.
  • That academic rigour, challenge and knowledge acquisition are vital to success.
  • That school leaders remove barriers for colleagues so that they can grow and excel.
  • That leadership, resilience and aspiration are valuable characteristics to grow in children.

We teach more languages than nearly every other school in the country. In their first half term Year 7 will choose either French or Spanish and will be taught that subject right through to Year 11. Our students receive three hours a week teaching in Years 7-9 and five hours a fortnight in Years 10 & 11. Over 90% of our students fall into this

category. You will be leading a growing department of five teachers, including yourself. Languages is right at the heart of our curriculum and you are unlikely to be working at a school as committed to language teaching as we are. We are committed to ensure that we grow our A-Level cohorts of languages students as well and this would be a really exciting area for the successful candidate to develop.

If you believe all of these things, are professionally ambitious and driven to transform the lives of the children of our community and City then please apply for the position of Head Of Modern Languages, TLR 1a. You will need to be able to teach French and Spanish up to KS5 and have a proven track record of leading excellent outcomes in this area.

Devon is an amazing place to live and work and we have a high number of new colleagues who have moved here from around the country in recent months and have loved the move. Not only will you be joining the most exciting and innovative school in the region, you would also be living in the best region of the country bar-non. Fresh air, an amazing coastline, Dartmoor and countryside right on your door step.

We are delighted to be part of The Ted Wragg Multi Academy Trust - a values driven, rapidly growing Trust with a relentless focus on transforming lives through learning by delivering outstanding outcomes for every student, regardless of background.

With a reputation for highly successful school improvement in very challenging circumstances, we are passionate about driving up standards and raising the aspirations of all our students.

Marine Academy Plymouth are committed to safeguarding children in its care; any successful appointment is subject to a satisfactory DBS check.

We would encourage you to arrange a visit to the school so you can see just how amazing our students are- please contact Michelle Samuel at michelle.samuel@marineacademy.org.uk
