Knutsford Academy, an 11-18 mixed comprehensive school, part of The Learning Alliance invites applications for the post of Head of Music. We are seeking a highly motivated, committed musician who is passionate about instilling a love for music across the whole school community. 

The successful candidate will work in a dynamic Faculty which places special emphasis on the Performing Arts. They will be committed to musical teaching and learning across the school in a department which constantly strives to provide musical experience that is accessible, inspiring and exciting for all of our students. You are likely to have been teaching for at least two years but are now seeking a position which offers scope for personal development in a stimulating, intellectually challenging environment. An interest in developing instrumental ensembles and the ability to accompany students on the piano would be an advantage.

Music is a popular choice at GCSE and numbers for the BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate scheduled to replace A level in September are also very healthy. There are many extracurricular opportunities, including a range of concerts in our own Performance Hall, musical theatre productions, participation in competitions at regional and national level and our very own annual Beswick Music festival.

Knutsford Academy provides secondary education to over 1200 students aged from 11 to 18 in the historic town of Knutsford, less than 20 miles from the centre of Manchester and minutes from the M6 motorway. Students arrive in Year 7 from the local primary schools in Knutsford and we also attract a number of students from the south Manchester and Northwich areas. The school formed in 1953 as Knutsford High School and still operates from the original site in the centre of the town, it transferred to Academy status in 2012.

Knutsford Academy and Cheshire Studio School are part of The Learning Partnership.

The Learning Partnership is a new multi-academy trust that was formed on 1st September 2023 as a merger between The Learning Alliance and The Learning for Life Partnership. The trust consists of fourteen schools, eight of which are primary schools and six are secondary schools, all based across East Cheshire and North Staffordshire.

The Knutsford Academy Team

Knutsford Academy is led by Headteacher Karen Key, who oversees the strategy and running of the school. There are currently over 60 teachers at the school and a support team who all work collectively to deliver the very best for our students.

Professional Development

We provide a range of training programmes through our own teacher training school, including a PGCE run in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, together with a personal development programme for those looking to progress to the next step, offering the NPQML and NPQSL, run in partnership with the Star Institute.
