The Directors of the Gardener Schools Group have established Kew House School in the conviction that there exists an opportunity for a different kind of independent secondary school in London - academically demanding but with a modern approach to selection criteria, the flexibility of the curriculum and recognition of creativity and talent. 

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, creative, dynamic and enthusiastic graduate Teacher as Head of Department to lead the development of the Music department at this relatively new school. You will be supported by the peripatetic music teaching provision in the school. The school offers opportunities for an orchestra, choir and a range of bands for the students. Overseas trips are part of our schedule and a significant contribution to the schools productions and concerts will be part of this key role.  

Music is taught to all students at Key Stage 3 and is a popular option at Key Stage 4 and A level. We have a state of the art facility and you will have the opportunity to further develop this area of the curriculum. 

Key Requirements:  

• strong background in practical and academic Music to GCSE and A level 

• capacity to raise attainment through motivating, challenging and inspiring our students  

• experience of managing music technology equipment and utilising state of the art facilities 

• help foster a culture of high expectations and achievement within the department  

• drive, enthusiasm, warmth and humor  

• passion for music that you can convey to young people 

• ability to develop curriculum materials to support students at KS3,4 and 6th form 

• manage the peripatetic teaching programme 

• organise and host regular music events and productions   

The school is committed to staff development and this position will provide a good springboard for further promotion within the school and beyond. All staff will be encouraged to attend INSET courses and will be provided with ample professional development opportunities.   

The school operates its own pay scales consistent with national teacher pay scales and will offer salary commensurate with experience and the nature of the role.
