The Independent School of Jakarta offers the international and local community of Jakarta an exceptional UK-style independent school education. The school opened to children aged 2 – 7 (Nursery to Year 3) in September 2021 and is growing incrementally to mirror the structure of 2-18 independent schools in the UK. From September 2024, the school will be open to children to age 11/12 (Year 7). At a later stage the school will expand to a Senior School campus where the children will transfer at 13 (Year 9).

Building on traditions found in successful British independent schools, we bring modern teaching practices to bear. We measure ourselves not simply against other schools in our city but rather against the standards found in leading independent schools in the UK and around the world. We are thoughtful about our international location and diverse pupil body and make appropriate adaptations to our educational provision. We believe that School should be fun and is an end in itself. We understand that confident, happy children who enjoy their time at school are more likely to succeed at school and in life.

The Independent School of Jakarta provides:

  • a premium, rich British independent school curriculum in an international context
  • academic excellence for all
  • outstanding pastoral care and opportunities for the development of character
  • a broad range of co-curricular activities as part of a fulfilling, extended school day

Strong academic achievement is at the core of our mission. Starting with a focus on numeracy and literacy in younger pupils and broadening as pupils become older, we encourage and support pupils to achieve to a high level. Excellent academic results and entry to well-regarded universities around the world are expected.

The school is a challenging and rewarding place to work. Calculated risk-taking in pursuit of the development of the school is encouraged. Meaningful professional development is supported. The school expects to develop a reputation as a place to develop one’s career.

The School is located in Southern Jakarta, in the district of Pondok Indah. Dubbed the ‘Beverly Hills’ of Indonesia, it is a much sought after suburb by expatriates and is well connected to other areas in Jakarta. Our newly built campus provides some of the finest Prep School facilities in the city, including dedicated pre-prep and prep libraries, a STEM lab, specialist art and music facilities, an indoor gym/hall, brand new outdoor pool, a climbing wall, outdoor astroturf pitch and lawned wooded gardens for the children to play in.
